Where had it gone? Sure it had seen a rat scurrying by the stairs while soaring high above, the winged cat had dove down and landed among the ruins of an ancient human civilization. Ruins that were the most challenging place to hunt for its prey, as there were many places for it hide among all the debris. It was also one of the most plentiful hunting grounds in this part of the forest.
Winged cats had been an experiment that the wizards of old had used to make a more useful familiar. Cats were a natural familiar to wizard because of their intelligence and cunning nature. Very few wizards picked other animals than cats. Owls and ravens were the next most popular because of the ability to fly. But, they lacked the smarts that the felines naturally had. The wizards had not thought that the winged addition to the cat would be able to be passed on to the next generation but it was. Cats being part magic had been easily able to absorb the magic used to give them wings and it became a part of them.
